A Legacy in Action

For more than 151 years, the historic Taylor-Stevenson Ranch Area has stood as a living testament to Houston’s rich and evolving history. What began as a generational ranch has grown into a powerful symbol of a multicultural American legacy, where Black descendants of the Taylor-Stevenson family have lived and worked alongside other diverse communities. The stories preserved here are woven into the larger American landscape and remain an important part of the cultural heritage of the City of Houston.
Through the Historical Mobile Tours of the American Cowboy Museum, visitors are invited to experience the remarkable history of the Taylor-Stevenson descendants—families whose resilience, land stewardship, and contributions helped shape the story of Black cowboys, ranching traditions, and community life in Texas.
These tours bring that history to life, connecting past and present while honoring a legacy that continues to inspire future generations.
